January: “Get Organized” Month

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say, next to losing weight, getting organized is the most common new year’s resolution. And it’s not like I can do without either one! So in my never ending quest to get more organized, which theoretically should cut down on my stress, I came across a couple of websites the other day on pinterest (gotta love it.) That might offer some aid and know how, and break the sometimes overwhelming task down into smaller easier tasks.

Home Storage Solution 101 has a 52 week Home Organization Challenge. All you have to do is sign up, I did, and it’s free! It should be more fun and easier to handle with a more bite sized portions approach to organizing your home.

Another website I found that kind of makes organization and cleaning (which goes along with organization to make it work) a no brainer is Get Organized Now which has a monthly check list that walks you through things to do everyday for the month. For me, it has to be simple and easy or I won’t do it. Not that I’m lazy (ehem . . . ) but as mentioned before, it can be a bit overwhelming which makes diving right in kind of scary. So if you don’t have to think about it . . . Like I said “no brainer!”


Now most of us know our problem areas, but sometimes those problem areas might take some major work, or many of us have too many problem areas to deal with, and we feel lost because we can’t see the starting point over the mountain of “stuff.” Where do I start? Do not fear! I found these tips on the Southern Home Organizers website:

Don’t know where to begin? Here are 15 ideas to get you started:

1. Update your planner with important dates: birthdays, anniversaries, doctor’s appointments and other annual appointments, annual veterinary appointment for your pet’s vaccinations, vacation days,vehicle license tag renewal date
2. Go through your household files and pull tax related papers
3. Make an appointment with your tax preparer
4. Archive 2010 and earlier papers
5. Set up files for 2011 bills and receipts
6. Set up a mail-handling system – no more piles of unopened mail this year
7. Clean out desk drawers and organize the essentials
8. Turn your kitchen junk drawer into a utility drawer and fill it with items you use often
9. Update phone lists and contact information
10. Renew your driver’s license, professional license, passport, dog license, etc.
11. Organize all closets and donate old, unwanted items
12. Organize one room per month by clearing out clutter and getting rid of items you no longer need, use or love.
13. Recycle or donate old magazines
14. Update your home inventory using a digital camera or video recorder
15. File your digital photos in online albums or electronic files

“Get it Done” Wednesdays nearly “Done us in!”

Hey all!  We are finally getting around to posting our “Get it Done” Wednesdays projects. It nearly killed us but here we are – better late than never, right?

I, in my usual fashion, waited until the last minute to carry out my project. I started it last night, but left most of it for this morning. Hey! It wasn’t like I was doing “nothing,” I have been working on getting some of my 7 year old’s birthday party stuff in order; invitations, planning, etc. At least I got my project done! You see, I knew this blog was a good idea to get me moving!

In Amy’s defense she finished her project in ample time, but just didn’t get the final picture and writing done. And, with her 7 year old’s birthday party to prepare for and throw tomorrow, well . . . you know how that goes. Good luck Amy! I’ll be following your footsteps with my own birthday nightmares soon enough!

And, as if that wasn’t enough, we have been experiencing some technical difficulties with getting the text and pictures to be where we want them.

Let me just say, “@#$%$#%&”

There, now I feel better (until I try to go in and fix it again!)
